Semtex authored "Hip Hop Raised Me", that's been described as the hip hop bible by several artists. In the book, Semtex shares his experiences and observations made over the course of several eras. He also adds insights gathered from thousands of interviews conducted with various hip hop artists. The book delves into the roots of hip hop and its evolution over time. Semtex gives an insider's perspective into the art form, detailing the rise of hip hop and its impact on popular culture.

TODAY VS. 10 YEARS AGO

When asked about the biggest differences for new artists today compared to 10 years ago, he explained that the concept of an artist changes year on year, but the biggest difference is the delivery. Artists have to do so much more today than just record a track and perform shows. They have to figure out how to be an entertainer and how to utilize all the different social media platforms. Social media is both a blessing and a curse because great artists pay the cost by being in the public eye all the time.

Semtex also discussed his thoughts on the greatest rapper of all time and of this generation. He believes that the greatest rapper of this generation is Drake because of his success, global appeal, and ability to cross cultural boundaries. Semtex thinks that the greatest rapper of all time is Jay Z because of what he's achieved and his lyrical skill.

ADVICE FOR NEW ARTISTS

Semtex advises new artists to just be themselves and make mistakes while they're young. He thinks that guiding them so they don't get into trouble is important, but it has to be a hot mess because that's the only way they'll learn.

Overall, Semtex's message to aspiring artists is to be true to themselves and follow their calling. Success is a combination of many things, but the bottom underlying factor is that you just have to be you. Don't try to be the second of somebody else.
